Demand Media's Domain Business Gets gTLD Contract
Demand Media said today that its domain name registry business--run out of Kirkland--has been awarded the contracts necessary to become an official generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) registrar. The company said it signed the contracts with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), allowing both its eNom and Name.com businesses to offer up gTLDs. Those new global domain name extensions are expecting to roll out over the next few months. Financial details of the contract were not announced. Demand Media is in the midst of spinning out the company's domain name businesses into an independent company.
