Cray Rolls Out First ARM Supercomputer

Seattle-based supercomputer developer Cray said on Monday that it has rolled out its first supercomputer based on ARM processors, using Cavium's ThunderX2 processors. According to Cray, the new Cray XC50 will include the Cray Linux Environment, the Cray Programming Environment, and Arm-optimized compilers, libraries, and tools. Cray said the supercomputers will be available to customers in the second quarter of 2018. Cray also has supercomputers based on more traditional, CISC chips such as the Intel Xeon Scalable and Intel Xeon Phi, as well as graphical processing unit (GPU) chips from NVIDIA.
