Cray Wins $70M Contract
Seattle-based supercomputer maker Cray said Tuesday that it was awarded a $70M contract, from the U.S. Department of Energy. Cray said the win was with the DOE's National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), for its Cray XC supercomputer. The new system will go towards the wide range of research being supported by NERSC. Cray says its has two other supercomputers at NERSC, a XC30 and XE6. The new system is expected to provide 10 times the capacity of the Cray XE6 already installed at the site.
