Urban Airship To Shut SimpleGeo

Portland-based Urban Airship, the developer of mobile push messaging software, said yesterday that it is planning to shut down SimpleGeo, the location-based information service it acquired in October. According to Urban Airship, it will shut down the service, help users transition to similar location information firm Factual, with a shutdown date of March 31st. Urban Airship said the move came after evaluating what to do with SimpleGeo; the firm decided it wanted to accelerate its push notification development, to deliver needed features "in the shortest amount of time possible", and decided that shutting SimpleGeo would allow it to focus its product development efforts. SimpleGeo provided information to mobile apps providers on nearby businsses.
