Starbucks: More than 26M Mobile Transactions So Far
Seattle-based coffee chain Starbucks reports today that it has seen more than 26 million mobile transactions via its mobile payment program since it started a year ago. Starbucks said that transactions have grown from 3 million transactions in the first 9 weeks of the program, to 6 million transactions for the 9 week period starting in October. Starbucks' smart phone app allows coffee drinkers to pull up their Starbucks Card information from within the app, allowing them to pay for purchases and recharge those cards. Starbucks said that there has been $110.5M reloaded on its Starbucks Cards from the mobile app; the company had $2.4 billion loaded on its cards in total during its FY11.
