Starbucks Launches Android App, Extends Payment Locations

Seattle-based Starbucks said today that it has launched a mobile payment application for Android, via the new Starbucks for Android app, and also inked a deal to roll out mobile payment services at Safeway's Starbucks locations. According to Starbucks, the new Android app runs on phones running Android 2.1 and above, allowing users to pay via their phone, manage their Starbucks Card balances, and more. In the Safeway deal, Starbucks said it will roll out mobile payments to more than 1,000 Starbucks Locations within Safeway stores. The new stores will bring the total locations which accept mobile payments to roughly 9,000. Starbucks launched its mobile payments service in January, with iPhone and Blackberry support.
