Cray Launches New Supercomputer

Seattle-based Cray, the supercomputer maker, has launched its newest machine, the Cray XK6, the firm said today. The new "hybrid" supercomputer taps graphical processing units (GPUs) from NVIDIA to boost the processing power of the computer, along with AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors. The firm said the system can support up to 50 petaflops of compute power. The first customer for the supercomputer is the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in Manno, Switzerland.
