Intellectual Ventures Ties With Samsung Electronics

Bellevue-based Intellectual Ventures, the patent powerhouse run by Nathan Myhrvold, and South Korean electronics firm Samsung Electronics, said late Thursday that they are in a long-term license arrangement. According to the two, the deal gives Samsung Electronics access to Intellectual Ventures' patent portfolio, including IP that is "critical" to Samsung's business operations. Financial details of the licensing deal were not disclosed. Intellectual Ventures said Samsung's license gives Samsung access to patents both for defensive purposes as well as for strategic collaboration.
