Intellectual Ventures Adds Pantech
Bellevue, Washington-based Intellectual Ventures said today that has added another patent licensee, Pantech, which will license parts of the firm's patent portfolio. Financial details of the licensing deal were not disclosed. Intellectual Ventures said that Pantech also has the option of becoming a member of its IP-for-Defense program, to help minimize future litigation; however, IV did not say if Pantech intends to become a member of the program. Pantech was actually the target of a patent infringement lawsuit by Intellectual Ventures, which was filed in July. That lawsuit--which also named over a dozen other electronics firm--covered patents for semiconductor memory designs held by IV, originally developed by Enhanced Memory Systems and Cirrus Logic.
