Cray Officially Launches XE6 Supercomputer
Seattle-based Cray said today that it has officially launched its next generation of high end supercomputers, the Cray XE6. Cray said the new supercomputer is based on its new Gemini interconnect and AMD Opteron processors. The XE6 was formerly known under the code name "Baker". Cray said that so far, it has $200M in contracts for installing the new supercomputer at the Korea Meteorological Administration, the United States Department of Energy's National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center, the U.S Army Engineer Research and Development Center, the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
