Amazon Wins Netflix
Seattle-based Amazon Web Services, the web services arm of Amazon.com, said today that it has been selected by Netflix, to run a number of that firm's mission critical, customer-facing, and backend applications. According to Amazon, Netflix is using its Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for storing the movie subscription services's movie content library; is migrating its website applications to AWS; and is using Amazon Elastic Map Reduce for its streaming data analysis. Netflix is also using AWS for movie transcoding, its recommendation systems, and website search features. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Amazon said that Netflix has been using its services for more than a year.
