MoneyTree Report: Venture Capital Investments Total $3.7B
PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association have weighed in on the quarterly venture capital investment activity, saying this morning that there was $3.7 billion invested in 612 deals in Q2 of 2009. The MoneyTree Report, which is based on data from Thomson Reuters, found that quarterly investment activity was up 15 percent in terms of dollars, but mostly flat in terms of deals compared to Q1, when $3.2B was invested in 603 deals. Those numbers matched the level of venture investment in 1996 and 1997. Despite the grim numbers, Mark Heesen, president of the NVCA, did note that they are seeing "notable upticks in venture fundraising and exit activity" this quarter.
