Microsoft Backs Layer's Business Messaging Software
Microsoft, via its venture capital arm, Microsoft Ventures, has put its backing behind mobile business messaging software developer Layer. Layer announced late last week that it had raised $15M in a funding round, which was was led by Greycroft Partners, and also included Microsoft Ventures and Salesforce Ventures. Layer's software helps businesses interact with their customers via SMS, texting, and other messaging. As part of the funding, Layer disclosed that it had acquired another messaging startup, Cola. Financial terms of that buy were not announced. Layer is based in San Francisco. Microsoft announced the investment on its blog last week.
