University of Washington Gets $10M From Amazon For New CSE Building

The University of Washington said on Thursday that it has received a new, $10M donation from Amazon, for a new Computer Science & Engineering building on the UW campus. According to UW, the gift will help it double its capacity for awarding degrees in the computer science and engineering area, to more than 600 annually. The $10M goes towards a $110M budget for the new, 130,000 square foot building at the school. As part of the gift, UW said it will create the Amazon Auditorium and Gallery, a 250 seat auditorium in the building. Amazon is a longtime supporter of UW, which feeds a large number of its graduates to the e-commerce giant. UW said more incoming UW freshman list CSE as their frist choice major than any other field, and it has far more demand from students than its current program capacity.
