Glowforge Tops $45M In Pre-Orders For 3D Laser Cutting Printer
Seattle-based desktop laser-cutter developer Glowforge says it has just topped more than $45 million in pre-orders for its yet-to-ship product, and it is about to shut pre-orders on the device. According to Glowforge, it will stop offer up pre-orders on its device, which costs $2,395, after September. Glowforge is developing a 3D laser cutting printer which can cut out a wide array of items, from leather to wood, at the press of a button. The startup, led by Dan Shapiro, says it is in the midst of doing long-term reliability testing and building beta units at its factory, and already has beta customers using the products. Glowforge is backed by Foundry Group and True Ventures.
