Microsoft To Donate $1 Billion In Cloud Computing To Nonprofits
Microsoft said Tuesday that it will donate $1 billion in cloud computing resources to nonprofits and university researchers over the next three years, as part of an effort to "serve the public good". According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who is announcing the effort at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland today, the donation of its cloud will help nonprofits "solve our greatest societal challenges" and "ultimately improve the human condition." The move also will have the benefit of putting more users on Microsoft's Azure cloud services, which compete head to head with competitors such as Amazon Web Services, and making developers familiar with Microsoft's own cloud offerings.
