Microsoft: Employees Gave More Than $100M To Nonprofits Last Year
Microsoft is bragging today that its U.S. employees have given more than $100.5M for nonprofits in 2011, to more than 18,000 U.S. community organizations, the largest year of employee giving at the company. Microsoft said that it has tallied more than $946M in donations to nonprofits and community organizations since 1983, when it started its giving program. Microsoft offers up its full time employees the equivalent of $12,000 in corporate matching for volunteer time, or dollar-for-dollar charitable contributions to nonprofits. The company said that employees racked up 426,671 volunteer hours to nonprofits, netting $7.2M from the company last. As an interesting contrast, the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, which provides funding for nonprofits, paid out $2.6 billion in grants in 2010 to charitable organizations.
