Starbucks Cards Hacked By Security Researcher: Free Coffee For Life

Seattle-based Starbucks is not having a good computer security week. A computer security researcher, Egor Homakov, says he has ‏figured out a way to hack Starbucks cards, exploiting a bug to generate unlimited amounts of money on those gift cards. The hack involved a "race condition" where Homakov rapidly transferred money between several Starbucks cards--resulting in much more money on those cards than were actually present. The new hack comes after the company denied it had responsibility for a widely publicized hacking of Starbucks cards last week.
