Paul Allen Finds Long Lost WWII Japanese Battleship
Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen has uncovered a sunken, Japanese battleship, the Musashi, off the coast of the Philippines, after and eight year search. Allen, a philanthropist who also has an interest in history, said he has been interested in World War II history since he was young. The Musashi, according to Allen, is one of the two largest and most technologically advanced battleships in naval history. The Musashi was commissioned in 1942, and was the largest battleship in naval history, weighing 73,000 tons. The battleship was sunk on October 24, 194, in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Allen used his yacht, M/Y Octopus, in the search for the battleship, along with an autonomous underwater vehicle.
