Amazon.com Gets Into The Movie Business

Seattle-based Amazon.com said this morning that it is getting into the movie business, and has created a new group out of its Amazon Studios unit to produce movies for release into theaters. The new business unit, Amazon Original Movies, will be led by Ted Hope, who had previously produced such films as Eat Drink Man Woman and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Amazon said it intends to produce and acquire original movies for theatrical release, which it will also premier just 4 to 8 weeks after release on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
