Amazon Enters Movie Production Business With Amazon Studios

Seattle-based Amazon.com has branched out into a new business, saying Tuesday evening that it has created Amazon Studios, a new online business focused on finding talent and developing motion pictures. According to Amazon, it is looking to find filmmakers and screenwriters, to whom it hopes to award a total of $2.7M in awards to in the next year. Amazon said prospective filmmakers can submit their full length, test movies online, at a chance to win prizes and also a potential deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. Amazon said the goal of the new business is to create "new, full-budget theatrical films based on the best projects."
