Amazon Deploys Army Of 15,000 Robots For Fulfillment Centers
Seattle-based Amazon.com said this morning that it has rolled out 15,000 advanced robots to help it pick, pack, and ship products out of its fulfillment center. Amazon said ten of its its eighth generation fulfillment center are using robots from Kiva and others, vision systems, and more to help it speed its delivery. Amazon said the robots even enable unloading of entire trailers of inventory in as little as 30 minutes, rather than hours. The robots supplement what Amazon.com says are 80,000 seasonal employees to help fulfill customer orders during the holiday season.
