Microsoft To Cut 18,000 Jobs
Redmond-based Microsoft confirmed this morning that it is cutting up to 18,000 positions over the next year at the company, with major damage over at Nokia, where Microsoft said it expects to lay off 12,500 professional and factory positions. According to Microsoft, the move is an effort to "simplify organization and align devices strategy" at the company. Microsoft said it will take a charge of $1.1 billion to $1.6 billion for restructuring due to the effort. In an email to employees, CEO Satya Nadella said that the changes were "difficult, but necessary."
