Microsoft Plans $677.6M Iowa Data Center Expansion

Microsoft said Friday that it is planning a $677.6 million expansion of its current data center in Des Moines, Iowa, which is expected to create 29 new jobs int he location. Microsoft said the expansion is the third for its existing datacenter in Iowa. As part of the deal, Microsoft said it will be eligible to receive up to $20 million in tax credits, including $15 in a sales and use tax refund paid during construction and a $5 million investment tax credit, from the local Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). Microsoft's "Project Mountain" will go to help enhance its cloud computing and online services. Microsoft has been at the facility since 2009.
