Socrata Claims Record Revenues, Growth
Seattle-based cloud software developer Socrata, which develops software to help governments with their open data efforts, said today that it had 166 percent revenue growth in 2013, and also grew its customer base and employees. The company--which did not disclose actual financials--also said it had an 80% growth in customers and 108% growth in employees. Socrata is led by Kevin Merritt. Socrata's products make city data easier for developers to tap into via application programming interfaces (APIs). Socrata is venture backed by OpenView Venture Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures and Frazier Technology Partners, as well as In-Q-Tel -- the investment arm of the CIA and U.S. intelligence community.
