Socrata Hires White House Vet

Seattle-based cloud software developer Socrata, which just announced an investment yesterday from In-Q-Tel, is gaining further inroads into the government world today with the hiring of a White House veteran. Socrata said it has hired Ian Kalin as Director of Open Data, where he will serve as Chief Data Officer and be an open data evangelist to its customers. Kalin was most recently at the White House, where he was serving as a Presidential Innovation Fellow. Socrata's product is aimed at opening up government data through APIs and other means to help citizens access that information.
