Microsoft Reels In Foxconn On Android Patent Coverage

Redmond-based Microsoft has reeled in one of its bigger patent licensing deals over Android, with Hon Hai, the parent company of electronic manufacturer Foxconn. According to the two, Foxconn has igned a worldwide patent licensing agreement covering devices running the Android and Chrome OS, including smartphones, tablets and televisions. Financial impact of the deal were not disclosed. Microsoft has been aggressively pursuing manufacturers of Android tablets, smartphones, and other products for patent coverage; it says that Android incorporates technology patented by the company. Android was developed by Microsoft rival Google. Foxconn is one of the largest manufacturers of electronic components for OEMs in the world.
