Microsoft Signs Two Android Patent Deals
Redmond-based Microsoft has signed two, separate agreements with manufacturers providing patent coverage, for Android and Chrome devices, the firm said last night. According to Microsoft, the deals were with Aluratek, for its eReaders and tablets running the Android and Chrome platform, and with Coby Electronics. Financial details of the licensing deals were not announced, but both deals call for royalties to be paid by those respective firms to Microsoft. Microsoft has been aggressively pursuing patent coverage from electronics device manufacturers using Android or Chrome, after asserting that those operating systems from Google use intellectual property covered by its own storehouse of patents.
