Microsoft Confirms Yammer Buy

Redmond-based Microsoft confirmed Monday that it has acquired San Francisco-based Yammer, a provider of a private micro-messaging service patterned after Twitter, in a deal worth $1.2 billion in cash. The deal had been leaked two weeks ago, but had not been confirmed by either firm until Monday.
