Nintendo: 3DS Hits 4.5M Units

Gaming hardware maker Nintendo, which runs its U.S. operations out of Redmond, reported today that it sold 4.5 million units of its Nintendo 3DS, 3D gaming console, in its first year on the market. The firm said that the sales have exceeded its launch of its Nintendo DS unit back in 2004, which sold 2.3 million units in its first year. Nintendo says it has tallied more than $1.2 billion in sales of hardware, software, and accessories for the platform in the last year. Nintendo launched the 3DS on March 27, 2011.
