Pendrell Buys DRM Patents Firm

Kirkland-based Pendrell Corporation said this morning that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire ContentGuard Holdings, a developer of digital rights management (DRM) patents and technology. According to Pendrell, it will pay $90.1M in cash to acquire ContentGuard, which is based in El Segundo, California. Pendrell said that ContentGuard has over 260 patents and over 160 pending patent applications around digital rights management; the firm was spun out of Xerox PARC in 2000.
