Report: California Lawmakers Look To Short Circuit Amazon Tax Effort
California lawmakers are apparently looking to short circuit Amazon.com's sales tax referendum, according to a report Friday. According to the Los Angeles Times, California lawmakers are looking to use some legislative slight of hand to nullify Amazon's efforts to push a referendum to voters, via a "urgency bill". The use of the bill would apparently make the new law immune to a referendum. Amazon has been battling California in June, when that state's lawmakers took aim at the firm and its affiliates, in an attempt to bolster the state's budget.
