Microsoft Kills Energy Service Hohm
Bellevue-based Microsoft said Thursday that it is discontinuing its home energy efficiency and monitoring service, Microsoft Hohm, effective May 31, 2012, just a week after competitor Google said it would kill of its similar program, Google PowerMeter. In explaining the shutdown, Microsoft attributed the shutdown to "slow overall market adoption of the service". Microsoft's Hohm service had helped consumers increase the energy efficiency of their homes. Microsoft debuted Hohm in July of 2009, in response to the launch of Google PowerMeter in February of the same year.
