Amazon EC2 Downtime Stretches Into Second Day
Issues over at Amazon EC2, the Amazon web service for cloud computing, are stretching into the second day, according to Amazon's Service Health Dashboard. The outages and downtime, which started yesterday at 1:41 AM PDT on Thursday, have affected hundreds of popular web sites and web services. Amazon's last update was at 2:41 AM, where it said it was continuing to make progress in restoring volumes which had caused the downtime. Amazon also had added more color to the downtime issues, saying that they were caused by a networking even early Thursday which caused re-mirroring of storage volumes at the service; that re-mirroring, a process used to ensure consistent images between different storage devices, apparently created a shortage of capacity at one of its availability zones.
