Amazon Gets Downtime, No Explanations Yet
Seattle-based Amazon.com had approximately three hours worth of downtime Tuesday afternoon, which resulted in users being unable to find or purchase products. Amazon.com has so far not released any details on the downtime. However, a third party web monitoring service, Catchpoint, reports that it measured Amazon.com downtime at three hours, with the service detecting anomalies at the Amazon site starting at 3 PM EST, lasting until 8 PM EST, with high response time and availability between 5 PM EST and 8 PM EST. Catchpint speculated the downtime could have cost Amazon as much as $9M in revenues, based on Amazon's last quarterly revenues, or more than $55,000 a minute.
