Intellectual Ventures In Deal With RIM
Bellevue-based Intellectual Ventures, the patent storehouse headed by Nathan Myrhvold, has inked a license deal with Research In Motion, the firm said Wednesday. Financial details of the license was not disclosed. IV said that deal will provide RIM with access to IV's 30,000 IP assets. Intellectual Ventures acquires and licenses a large number of patents to other companies, mostly for protective purposes. The firm said the move will allow RIM to leverage its portfolio in future licensing negotiations. RIM is the maker of the Blackberry smart phone.
