Borders Accelerates E-Reader Price Wars
Borders said Tuesday that it has dropped the price of its firm's Kobo e-reader, from $149.99 to $129.99, and its Aluratek Libre e-book reader from $119.99 to $99.99, as the intense competition to lower prices for electronic book readers continues. The Kobo is now $10 cheaper than Amazon's Kindle, which is $139 for the Wi-Fi version, and $189 for the WiFi+3G version. Barnes & Noble sells its competing Nook reader for $149 for the Wi-Fi version, and $199 for its 3G+Wi-Fi model. Earlier this year, Amazon and Barnes & Noble drove e-reader prices down in an e-reader price war, driving the price of Amazon's Kindle for $259 to $189, with Amazon rolling out a $139 Wi-Fi only version in July.
