Cray Part Of $25M High Performance Computing Grant
Seattle-based Cray is part of a team which has been awarded a $25M, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), to develop GPU (graphical processing unit)-based high performance computing technology. According to GPU firm Nvidia, which led the effort, the group includes Cray, INc. Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and six U.S. universities. NVIDIA said the four-year research contract was awarded under DARPA's Ubiquitous High Performance Computing (UHPC ) program, and will go to developing exascale supercomputers 1,000 times more popwerful than today's fastest supercomputers. NVIDIA did not detail Cray's role in the effort.
