Getty Images Buys Jupiterimages

Seattle-based Getty Images said today that it is in a definitive agreement to acquire Jupiterimages, the royalty-free, stock photogrpahy site owned by Jupitermedia. According to Getty, it will pay $96M in cash for the business. According to Getty Images, it will retain the Jupiterimages brand and websites, but will integrate its technology into the site. The firm said the acquisition will make more digital content available to its existing and potential customers. Jupiterimages sells stock photography from a wide range of stock photography agencies and photographers, to graphic designers and others, generally at prices much lower than equivalent photos from Getty.
