EMC Creates New Seattle Firm, Decho
EMC Corp., manufacturer of data storage hardware and software, said today that it has created a new Seattle-based firm focused on helping consumers manage and protect their digital identities. EMC said the new company—Decho Corp.—combines two formerly separate EMC businesses, Mozy Inc. and Pi Corp. EMC acquired Pi in February and Mozy in October 2007. EMC said Decho—a contraction of "digital echo"—will offer consumers and businesses the established Mozy-branded online backup service while also introducing a cloud-based service for individuals. EMC purchased Kirkland, Washington-based Pi Corp.--which was founded by former VMware executive Paul Maritz--in February. Pi offered personal information management software; Mozy provides online backup for individuals and small businesses.
