Amazon Gains Rights To Lord of The Rings, Plans Prequel

Seattle-based Amazon said this morning that it has acquired the rights to The Lord of the Rings, and will produce a series of prequels for Amazon Prime. Amazon said the deal with with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema will include a multi-season television series, preceding The Fellowship of the Ring. Amazon said the deal also includes a potential, additional spin-off series. Financial details of the deal were not announced.
