Amazon Targets Fan Fiction With Kindle Worlds Store
Seattle-based Amazon.com is ramping up its support for "fan fiction"--those stories written and based on popular characters, but which are created by fans--through its new Amazon Kindle Worlds Store. Amazon said the store lets fans and writers to publish their own, self-submitted fan fiction, and earn royalties for their contributions. Amazon said those titles will price at between $0.99 and $3.99. Fan fiction is the recently popular practice of taking books, shows, films, comics, music, and games, and creating your own, fiction stories based on those characters. Amazon said it has negotiated with a number of rights holders to allow the practice, which usually runs up against copyright and rights issues.
