Microsoft, Facebook Team On Atlantic Subsea Cable
Microsoft and Facebook said on Thursday that the two are in a deal, to build a new, subsea cable across the Atlantic--to specifically help provide better connections to Europe and other parts of the world for both Microsoft's cloud and online services and Facebook's social networking services. According to the two, they will install the new "MAREA" cable over the next year, with constructions starting in August of 2016, and completion expected in October 2017. The two said the new high speed link will be able to handle 160Tbps of dat,a and stretch over 6,600 km of ocean floor. The two companies did not say how much they will spend on the infrastructure project.
