Rentrak Acquired By comScore For Around $800M
Portland-based Rentrak, which provides movie, TV, and other media measurement services, has been acquired by comScore, in a deal worth approximately $800M. The deal would swap 1.15 comScore shares for each share of Rentrak, giving 66.5% ownership of the new company to comScore, and 33.5% to Rentrak shareholders. The acquisition brings the more traditional, media measurement services at Rentrak together with comScore's strength in the Internet and e-commerce measurement area. comScore is well known for its rankings of web sites, tracking of e-commerce activity, and other Internet measurements, while Rentrak's roots are more in the television and movie viewing metrics area.
