iovation: Mobile Devices Targeted In Summer Travel Scams
As summer travel season ramps up, the travel scams--many that target smartphones--are heating up, according to Portland-based iovation. The company said it has seen an uptick in fraud that take advantage of mobile phone users, pulled from what it says was the analysis of more than a hundred million online travel transactions. iovation said that, among things to watch out for, are the sale of flight credits by criminals who had used stolen credit cards to purchase those flights; fake travel vouchers on social media; requests to wire a security deposit for a property which actually doesn't exist; and urgent, fake, cash requests friends and family in foreign countries. iovation provides fraud prevention software to e-commerce and other online sites, to help those companies prevent scams and loss.
