Itron Rolls Out New Smart Grid Offering With Cisco

Liberty Lake, Washington-based smart utility meter developer Itron has rolled out anew product aimed at managing smart grid communications--based on technology from Cisco. Itron said it has launched Itron Riva, which it called a "edge intelligence platform" which offers up adaptive communications and other technology used for smart grid communications. The platform includes technology switch between RF and power line (PLC) communications to help enable better connectivity to smart grid sensors. Itron and Cisco said they jointly developed the architecture behind the new product. Pricing on the product was not announced.
