Itron Wins Deal In Austria
Liberty Lake, Washington-based smart meter maker Itron said this week that it has scored a win in Austria, as part of a smart grid installation. According to Itron, the deal calls for the installation of its OpenWay smart grid products in Salzburg, Austria, as part of a combined Cisco/Itron pilot project using IPv6. Financial impact of the win was not announced. The contract is with Salzburg AG< which supplies 260,000 customers in the province of Salzburg. Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart. Salzburg AG is apparently looking to meet a European and national mandate to move 95 percent of the meters in Austria to "smart meters" by 2019.
