Amazon, HBO In Instant Video Deal: No Thrones
Seattle-based Amazon.com has inked a significant, new content deal this morning, with HBO, which will bring such titles as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Big Love, Deadwood, and others to the company's Prime Instant Video service. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. According to the two, the multi-year agreement will provide previous seasons of HBO shows--three years after airing on HBO--to Prime Instant Video. The shows will go live on May 21st. The two said this is the first time that HBO programming has been licensed to an online-only, subscription streaming service. HBO's latest lineup of shows, including Game of Thrones, are not covered in the deal.
