Elemental Demonstrates 4K Ultra HD p60 Support

Portland-based video encoding product developer Elemntal Technologies said today that it is demonstrating support for the new, full frame rate 4K Ultra HD video coding standard (HEVC). According to Elemental, it is demonstrating live 4K@p60 HEVC content for display in real time. 4K Ultra HD is being targeted at live sports and very high viewing rates--60 frames per second--which is a challenge for real time transcoding. Elemental did not say when the new support will be available to its customers, but said it intends to provide the Ultra HD support to customers, particularly those in live sports. The company said it previously supported the 4Kp30 rate (30 frames per second) at the Osaka Marathon in October.
