Itron Expands Into Multi-Family Heating Metering

Liberty Lake, Washington-based smart meter maker Itron is expanding the markets its serves today, saying it has added a new product to tackle the multi-family, heating market. According to Itron, it has created a new product called EquaScan, which helps apartment buildling owners bill residents based on their actual consumption of heat. Itron said the solution uses heat cost allocators, water meter communication modules, master radio units and application software. Cost of the new product was not announced. Unlike electricity and water, billing for heat has not been well automated. Itron said the product is aimed at apartment building operators in Germany, France, Turkey, China and Russia, among other countries.
